Our family is safe and was not evacuated due to the Gold Ranch Fire. An endless thank you to the first responders and emergency personnel who worked tirelessly throughout the night and continue today to protect our Verdi community. ♥️

Yesterday evening around 7:00 PM we received an alert from Watch Duty of a vegetation fire off the I-80 corridor in Verdi.

Luckily, we were already home from our camping trip and not stuck on the freeway like many heading eastbound. We watched the smoke progressively get worse as the fire rapidly spread through the night burning some 400 acres. We have been without power since 7:45 PM yesterday evening.

Our neighbors knocked on the door around 11:30 PM to alert us that the winds had shifted and the fire was heading in our direction. At this point it hadn’t crossed the freeway but would soon after. Smoke blanketed the skies and you could smell it inside the house.

We wanted to let the boys rest since Luke started school this morning. We were never officially evacuated but ready to go if we needed to. Needless to say, we didn’t get much sleep as we could see the glow from the flames from our bedroom window.

What a stark reminder of how quickly things can change in an instant…this is the second year in a row we have experienced the uncertainty fire season brings with two fires too close for comfort.

Sending prayers to the families that were impacted and lost their homes last night. Our hearts are with you!
